Colin Snow - Detailed Bio

I'm Colin Snow, CEO and Founder of Skylogic Research, LLC, and I am a 25 year technology industry veteran with a background in electronics and software., and I am a 25 year technology industry veteran with a background in manufacturing, electronics, digital imaging, field service, software, research, and mobility. My prior experience includes working at companies such as Olympus Corporation, Oracle / PeopleSoft, Steelwedge, and SAP. As an industry analyst at Ventana Research, I covered a range of topics including operational performance and product information management.

I have built and flown remote control aircraft since high school. I combined my passion for photography and aeronautics in 1992 practicing aerial photography from manned aircraft and now as a hobby do aerial photography and video with multirotor helicopters. I earned my BA from Evangel University and MBA from Florida Atlantic University, I am a member of the major UAS industry groups including: AUVSIRCAPA, and AMA, and I hold a FAA Remote Pilot certification.

Falcon56 RC DroneModel Aircraft - My passion for making, programming, and piloting remote control unmanned aerial systems (UAS) began at an early age. Growing up in Connecticut and Ohio I learned aviation mechanics by building and flying control-line gas engine model airplanes. While entering college I built from scratch some of the very first radio control (RC) fixed wing planes.

Electronics - In junior high and high school my interests expanded to electronics. When not putting together the latest Heathkit I could be found building the latest Popular Electronics gadget. From shortwave radios, to strobe lights, to sound systems, to integrated circuit logic boards I soldered and assembled the componentry for many leading-edge products of that era. I also learned electro-magnetic principles by custom winding motor armatures for slot cars. All of this came in handy when I started building and programming drones.

McIntyre_Vineyards_AerialPhotography - Starting in 1981 under one of Ansel Adam’s print masters, I learned the art and craft of black & white and color print making along with laser enlargement. As a result I founded an underwater photography business and started practicing aerial photography from manned aircraft in 1982. I now do digital Imaging including photography, video, photogrammetry, 3D imaging, and timeline editing.

Software - For years I worked as a field manager for Olympus Corporation, Medical Instruments Division. I participated first hand as the endoscope industry moved from opto-mechanical based to electro-video based devices that relied on software. At other Silicon Valley companies like CIDCO, PeopleSoft, and Steelwedge I did software product strategy employing software development best-practices.

Research Analyst - Later, as a software Industry analyst at Ventana Research, I focused on Operational Performance Management vendors and systems. My research included: concept, promotion, client negotiations, question development, survey deployment, data collection & monitoring, result analysis & segmentation, report writing, and subcontractor management. Until 2015, I worked as a subject matter expert for SAP (NYSE: SAP). My practice area covered the small and medium business (SMB) channel partners helping them develop go-to-market content and promotional plans.

DSC_0056c_16x9Drone Analyst® - Recognizing the market potential for small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) in many industries I started Skylogic Research in 2012 with the aim of educating start-ups with industry and regulatory trends. Since that time the company has grown rapidly and now provides participants in the entire commercial drone ecosystem – including end-users, technology vendors, venture capitalists, consulting firms, and service providers – with the research-based insights they need to make critical decisions with confidence.
